About

Prosthodontics And Crown & Bridge specializes in restoring oral function and esthetics through the diagnosis, planning, and fabrication of fixed and removable dental prostheses, including crowns, bridges, dentures, and implants.

The Department of Prosthodontics and Crown & Bridge is a vital specialty in dentistry focused on the restoration and replacement of missing or damaged teeth to rehabilitate oral function, esthetics, and overall oral health. It encompasses fixed prosthodontics (crowns and bridges), removable prosthodontics (complete and partial dentures), implantology, and maxillofacial prosthetics. The department provides comprehensive education and hands-on training to undergraduate and postgraduate students in both conventional and advanced prosthodontic techniques.

The department houses a fully equipped preclinical and clinical laboratory with modern dental units, CAD/CAM systems, high-precision articulators, and dental casting and ceramic units to support high-quality prosthesis fabrication. A specialized library with updated textbooks, journals, and digital resources ensures academic excellence and research support.

Advanced technologies such as the intraoral scanner and Cone Beam Computed Tomography (CBCT) are integrated into clinical practice, enabling precise digital impressions, 3D treatment planning, and improved implant placement accuracy. These innovations significantly enhance diagnostic capability, patient comfort, and treatment outcomes.

Through a patient-centered and evidence-based approach, the department continually strives for excellence in education, clinical service, and research, preparing students to deliver high-quality prosthodontic care in modern dental practice.

Aims and Objectives

The objective of the undergraduate (UG) and postgraduate (PG/MDS) program in the Department of Prosthodontics and Crown & Bridge is to emphasize the diagnosis, treatment planning, and rehabilitation of patients with missing or deficient teeth and/or oral and maxillofacial tissues. The goal is to restore function, esthetics, comfort, and oral health using fixed, removable, or implant-supported prostheses.

  • The Department of Prosthodontics and Crown & Bridge highlights the importance of comprehensive oral rehabilitation, biomechanical principles, and esthetic considerations in prosthodontic treatment.
  • Students are trained in understanding occlusion, jaw relations, articulation, and temporomandibular joint function relevant to prosthodontic therapy.
  • Prior to clinical postings, UG and PG students undergo intensive preclinical training including simulation exercises for complete dentures, removable partial dentures, fixed partial dentures, and implant prosthodontics.
  • Clinical case history, examination, diagnosis, and treatment planning are emphasized with patient-centric approaches that encourage active student participation.
  • The department is equipped with modern audiovisual and digital tools including CAD/CAM systems, virtual articulators, and 3D printing to support advanced prosthodontic education and research.
  • Students are encouraged to acquire digital skills and evidence-based knowledge to stay abreast of technological advances in prosthodontics.
  • Participation in interdisciplinary learning and collaboration with departments like oral surgery, periodontics, and orthodontics is promoted to enhance holistic patient care.
  • Research in the areas of material science, implantology, maxillofacial prosthetics, and digital prosthodontics is encouraged. Facilities and guidance are provided to support both UG and PG research activities.
  • Students are motivated to attend conferences, workshops, CDE programs, and hands-on training to upgrade clinical and academic competencies.
  • Faculty members support students not only through clinical mentorship and academic supervision but also through guiding them in quality improvement and innovative clinical practices.

The UG (BDS) and PG (MDS) programs are affiliated with and recognized by Atal Medical and Research University (AMRU), which also offers structured academic and clinical training aligned with contemporary prosthodontic standards.
