Conservative Dentistry and Endodontics

Conservative Dentistry is the art and science of the diagonosis, treatment and prognosis of defect of teeth that do not require full coverage restorations for correction

Such treatment should result in the restoration of proper tooth, function and esthetics, while maintaining the physiologic integrity of the teeth in harmonious relationship with the adjacent hard and soft tissues, all of which should enhance the general health and welfare of the patient.

Endodontics is the branch of dentistry which is concerned with morphology, Physiology and pathology of human dental pulp and peri-radicular tissues. Its study and practice encompasses the basic and clinical science including the biology of normal pulp and etiology, diagnosis, prevention and treatment of disease, and injuries of pulp and associated peri-radicular condition, and also including, the procedures like bleaching of discolored teeth and endodontic implants.

The Department of Conservative Dentistry and Endodontics at HDC aims to maintain standards in teaching the undergraduate and postgraduate students and in treating the patients. Department has dedicated teaching and nonteaching staff with excellent infrastructure to deliver effective services to patients. The department is equipped with advanced dental chairs, latest dental equipment, operating microscopes and clinical materials. We provide plentitude of treatments ranging from direct and indirect tooth restorations, esthetic veneers, aesthetic rehabilitation, smile designing, vital and non-vital bleaching, non-surgical root canal treatment, retreatment of failed endodontically treated teeth and surgical endodontics with dental operating microscopes. Department library is equipped with updated editions of all the textbooks, national and international journals.

Orthodontics and Dental Orthopaedics

Orthodontics and dentofacial orthopaedics specialization deals with diagnosis, prevention, interception and correction of malocclusion and other abnormalities  of the developing or mature orofacial structures. The departments offers a full range of orthodontics services including removable appliances, myofunctional appliances and fixed appliances. The department is well equipped with modern orthodontic clinical and laboratory facilities along with a separate photography room. Apart from traditional means of correcting malocclusions with conventional fixed appliances, the department believes in use of ultra-modern treatment techniques including lingual orthodontics and clear aligners. Use of skeletal anchorage systems including mini-plates and mini-implants, has revolutionized the treatment and offerened promising results for complex dental and skeletal deformities.

Prosthodontics And Crown and Bridge

Prosthodontics And Crown & Bridge specializes in restoring oral function and esthetics through the diagnosis, planning, and fabrication of fixed and removable dental prostheses, including crowns, bridges, dentures, and implants.

The Department of Prosthodontics and Crown & Bridge is a vital specialty in dentistry focused on the restoration and replacement of missing or damaged teeth to rehabilitate oral function, esthetics, and overall oral health. It encompasses fixed prosthodontics (crowns and bridges), removable prosthodontics (complete and partial dentures), implantology, and maxillofacial prosthetics. The department provides comprehensive education and hands-on training to undergraduate and postgraduate students in both conventional and advanced prosthodontic techniques.

The department houses a fully equipped preclinical and clinical laboratory with modern dental units, CAD/CAM systems, high-precision articulators, and dental casting and ceramic units to support high-quality prosthesis fabrication. A specialized library with updated textbooks, journals, and digital resources ensures academic excellence and research support.

Advanced technologies such as the intraoral scanner and Cone Beam Computed Tomography (CBCT) are integrated into clinical practice, enabling precise digital impressions, 3D treatment planning, and improved implant placement accuracy. These innovations significantly enhance diagnostic capability, patient comfort, and treatment outcomes.

Periodontology and Oral Implantology

The Department of Periodontology and Oral Implantology is a specialized department within dental schools or dental hospitals that focuses on the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of diseases affecting the supporting and surrounding structures of the teeth, primarily the gums, periodontal ligament, cementum, and alveolar bone. The department also deals with the science of dental implants & diseases associated with dental implants.

Treatment of different types of gingivitis (diseases of the gums) and periodontitis (pyorrhoea), developmental and acquired conditions of supporting structures of the teeth, surgical placement of dental implants and peri-implant diseases.

  • Diagnose the patient’s periodontal problem, plan, and perform appropriate periodontal treatment.

Paedodontics and Preventive Dentistry

Pediatric  Dentistry is the branch of dentistry that deals with children from birth through adolescence. It caters to the overall dental health of children including preventive and interceptive care and management of various oro-dental anomalies. This branch encompasses a variety of disciplines, techniques, procedures and skills that share a common basis with other specialties, but are modified and adapted to the unique requirements of infants, children, adolescents, and those with special healthcare needs. Provision of oral health care for a varied range of common ailments of the oro-dental system with special emphasis on behaviour management is taken into consideration. It aims to provide not only basic oral health care but is also equipped with the latest equipment and infrastructure for Sedation Dentistry leading to efficient behaviour management in children.   

Oral Medicine And Radiology

The Department of Oral Medicine and Radiology is a vital specialty in dentistry that bridges the gap between medicine and dentistry. It focuses on the diagnosis, medical management, and radiographic evaluation of diseases affecting the oral and maxillofacial region. This department plays a key role in identifying oral manifestations of systemic diseases, managing chronic facial pain, temporomandibular joint disorders (TMDs), and detecting potentially malignant and malignant conditions.

Radiology, an integral part of the department, involves the use of various imaging techniques such as intraoral radiographs, panoramic radiography (OPG), and advanced imaging like CBCT to support accurate diagnosis and treatment planning. Oral Medicine and Radiology also deals with the care of medically compromised patients and emphasizes a multidisciplinary approach to patient management.

The department is essential not only for clinical diagnosis and patient care but also for training dental students in diagnostic skills and radiographic interpretation, ensuring they are well-prepared to handle diverse clinical situations.

Oral Pathology

The department of oral Pathology has flourished remarkably in the past few years due to the hard work of all the faculty members and doctors who are constantly working towards providing quality disgnostic services to the patients. The department is also very focussed in the research arena. Accurate diagnosis is given to benefit the patients in minimal amount of time. Immunohistochemistry methods are being routinely used for diagnostic purposes of connective tissue pathology. PCR related research in the form of molecular diagnostics to understand the pathogenesis of oral lesions is underway. Our motto is "Diagnosis with a smile"

Public Health Dentistry

The Department of Public Health Dentistry @ HDC, SNR is dedicated to improving oral health and overall well-being at both individual and community levels through education, research, and service. The department focuses on training students to identify, prevent, and manage oral diseases by understanding the social, behavioral, and environmental factors that influence health. With a strong emphasis on preventive and promotive oral care, the department actively conducts health education programs, oral cancer screening, tobacco cessation counseling, and school dental health initiatives. It regularly organizes and participates in community outreach camps in collaboration with various national and international organizations, extending quality dental care to underserved and remote populations. Students are encouraged to take part in these field programs, enabling them to gain hands-on public health experience and strengthen their sense of social responsibility. The department also promotes student participation in scientific conferences, seminars, and research presentations, fostering academic growth and professional confidence. Through its integrated efforts in education, research, community service, and collaborations, the Department of Public Health Dentistry continues to uphold its vision of creating socially responsible dental professionals committed to advancing oral health for all.
