World No Tobacco Month Celebrations
Dual Community Outreach Camps by team HDC: World No Tobacco Month Celebrations, 2026 As part of its ongoing World No Tobacco Month celebrations, Team HDC successfully organized two community outreach camps in District Kullu on Tuesday, 26th May, 2026, focusing on oral health promotion, tobacco cessation awareness, and preventive healthcare among vulnerable sections of society. The outreach activities involved an approximate 12-hour field engagement, with the team departing at 7:00 A.M. and returning by 7:00 P.M., reflecting the dedication and commitment of the participating students and faculty towards community service. The first camp was conducted at the Integrated Rehabilitation Centre for Addicts (IRCA) Bhunter under the Addiction Treatment Facility (ATF), Kullu from 09:45 AM to 1 PM. A total of 30 residents were screened (which included female addicts), and through the newly fully-equipped dental van, 17 residents received dental treatment services. The attendees were educated regarding oral hygiene and tobacco cessation, and live demonstrations of proper brushing and flossing techniques were conducted along with awareness sessions on the harmful effects of tobacco use and the importance of healthy lifestyle practices. Certificates of appreciation were presented to the IRCA staff on behalf of the college in recognition of their valuable collaboration and continued efforts in rehabilitation and community care. The camp also served as a valuable academic and sensitization experience for Team HDC students by providing meaningful firsthand exposure to community-based de-addiction support services and compassionate patient interaction. The second camp was organized at Navchetna Special School from 01: 30 PM to 4:00 PM, where approximately 55 screenings of special children, teachers, and parents were carried out. Attendees were provided oral health education and live demonstrations of brushing and flossing techniques and were encouraged to spread awareness against tobacco use within their families and communities. Stationery kits were distributed among the special children on behalf of the college as a gesture of encouragement and celebration of the occasion. The team was also graciously hosted for lunch by Navchetna Special School, reflecting the warmth and collaborative spirit shared during the outreach activity. The initiative reflected the continued commitment of Team HDC towards compassionate community service, preventive healthcare, and building awareness for a healthier and tobacco-free society.
